Find Porsche history?

Hi all,

I'm completely new at this so please bare with me....

I've recently bought a 911T -72 that is far from original... It has the usual flared fenders, turbo spoiler etc. (Too bad... I prefer the original look, but one can't have everyting one wants....)

The thing is that I bought it here in Sweden and I'm interested in it's history. I know it's been imported from US in the late 80's (1988?). Is there any way to get the history based on the cars chassinumber? I'd like to know what equipment it had, what color it was and anything I can find out.

I'd also like to know if there are anywhere on the web I can find reprints of the manual to the car.

Thanks!

/Christian

PS. Sorry if the english isn't perfect, but as I said.... I'm from Sweden.

Hi Christian,

It sounds like you've got a nice car. Don't be shy and post some pictures!

You can get a certificate of authenticy directly from Porsche which details your car's options and color scheme. The bad news is, they just raised the fees to $110 for pre-1980 cars and it is now $95 for 1980 and later vehicles. You can download the form here:

You can also buy the owners manuals for your car from Pelican Parts:

Have fun with your new toy!

you can order a Kardex from Porsche Cars North America, Inc.. the Kardex shows engine serial number, paint colors, etc.. the last address i have for them is:

PCNA
980 Hammond Drive
Suite 1000
Atlanta, GA 30328

phone 770 290 3500
fax 770 290 3700

the price for Kardex has gone up considerably in recent years. i think i paid $35 for mine, but now they may be as much as $75. i will warn you that the Kardex details for early cars is not too much. my '73 only gave basic information, while my '89 had much more. but the information is enough to tell if you have the original engine, transmission, and paint.

some people will debate whether this is worth the price. i did it for both my cars since i really wanted to know and ensure i had all original vehicles.
