Disabling the Heater
 

I recently purchased my first Porsche, a 78 911 SC, and my question is related to the heater. The fan for the heater above the engine isn't working right now, so I thought I'd remove it. I don't really need the heater in SoCal, and those big heater hoses get in the way when working on the engine and can't be helping it cool.

But if I pull the heater hoses, it leaves the rear inlet to the heat exchangers wide open. Is there an appropriate way of closing the heat exchanger pipes where the air is normally pumped in? I was thinking of hose clamping something over the ends, but I'm not sure what yet.

Anything that will fit over it and resist heat is all you need. Some guys on here have just found cans that would fit over the openings.

Prior to backdating all the heater hoses to the early (pre 911SC) air diverters, I used a cat food can for the 2-1/2" hoses and a baked bean can for the 3" hose. In both instances, one can "plug" the hose or "cap" the hose, depending on which way you rotate the can.

Then just paint the cans with a VHT paint, clamp them on with the original hose clamps, and voila!, you have things plugged up properly in anticipation to the backdating.

damn, and I am fighting for all the heat I can get from my RS Tube.

I used a top cap from a spray paint can to block them off when I was in New Mexico and had the 2.7...worked ok.
