RSR Services -- finished website

Guys,

The site my company developed for the Melbourne-based used Porsche dealer, RSR Services, went live this afternoon.

http://www.rsrservices.com.au/

Some of you may remember the original design concepts I posted a few weeks ago. Well, the finished site is a lot different. In some ways it's better, in some ways it's not.

Take a look and let me know what you think. Keep in mind that this site was a cheapie!

Cool site Matt!

I really liked the FLASH intro with all the B/W images.

Job well done.

Nice, and simple to use.

My wife tried ordering some Christmas stockings tonight on a website. It was a confusing nightmare for her -- I think she finally gave up. Too many gimmicks and gizmos out there in web design. To my mind, simplicity is a virtue on the internet.

Adam 10-31-2003 02:10 AM

Looks great! I really like the intro, Matt.

Victor 10-31-2003 03:17 AM

One question only for now:

What is with the camber settings on the white RSR on the red backdrop?

I do have a whole lot of other questions, but it is too late in the night even for me to play devils advocate.

JackT 10-31-2003 03:31 AM

Great intro.

Thanks for your feedback, guys. I agree; ease of use is something that's often forgotten by website developers -- even ordering groceries online is akin to navigating through a maze.

Nice site, nice cars. :)

Spud 10-31-2003 09:08 PM

Nice site...

I like the look and feel.

From a usability point of view it was a bit odd to be shunted to another site (was in a new window though) when I clicked the "Cars for Sale" link on the top navigation of the site. Maybe an interim page could be used to let the user know they were heading off-site? Or they could actually list the cars they have for sale on their site (more maintenance for you).

Also, the content seems a bit thin, the "Welcome" and "About" pages are the same, begs the question why?

Not trying to be negative, I am in the web business as well, and have sat through many hours of usability testing of my sites

Matt Holcomb 11-01-2003 03:38 AM

Doug,

The client decided against their own vehicle listing -- their budget wouldn't stretch that far, which is why we linked to his CarPoint listing. It's not ideal, I know.

As for the Welcome/About Us pages, I'm waiting for some extra copy, which will be added to the About Us page.

Thanks for taking a look at it.

Rob's contact details on the RSR services web site do not include an email adress but the ninemsn page does.

Also, maybe some testimonials would be cool. I for one am a very happy Rob Raymer customer (scored mine from him about 4 years ago) and would be happy to provide a reference for exchange of a loan vehicle of my choosing for a month. Or two.

Also, there should be a section in there for people who are thinking about selling with some compelling reasons for doing this through RSR instead of the opposition.

Matt Holcomb 11-01-2003 04:14 AM

Victor,

Rob didn't want his e-mail address listed on the website.

A testimonials page is a good idea. Do you mind if I run it by Rob next week? Actually, if you're going to be at Sandown tomorrow for Show-Off Day, you should catch up with Rob and tell him that you've had a look at the website, and that you have an idea for it.

Better take the email adress of the carpoint ads then....

I will not be doing "show off day" this year. Looking out the window, I am pretty glad too. Fancy a 200kph canoe ride anyone?

Will you be there? I am thinking of turning up later in the day for a quick look out of morbid curiousity.

Paul W 11-01-2003 01:57 PM

Hi Matt

Like the look of the site, especially the initial flash screen. On my computer the formatting of the welcome page was all over the place. The line spacing of text was such that lines were running over each other and footer shots. Wondering if it is just my computer and or the screen res of my flat screen monitor.

You guys up for a cruise soon?

Regards,

Matt Holcomb 11-02-2003 04:16 PM

Victor,

The Pelican server swap prevented me from replying sooner.

I didn't go to Sandown -- I had to atone for being a grumpy ass-wipe on Saturday morning. Did you go?

Paul,

The text shouldn't be overlapping. I'll look into it -- thanks for the heads up.

We should organise a drive day soon. How does the end of the month sound?

obrut 11-02-2003 06:49 PM

doesn't seem to work - IE or Netscape ????

SCVWGUY 11-02-2003 07:00 PM

What would it cost to bring a car from there to California?

Tinton 11-02-2003 07:02 PM

Nice website but maybe axe the site requirements page.

Even more than an F1 car!

Matt Holcomb 11-02-2003 07:31 PM

Ryan,

You'll need to download the latest version of Flash. We've tested the site extensively, and it's okay. Thanks for looking at it, though.

SCVWGUY,

Probably $5K.

Andrew,

You have to give users a chance to download Flash. The splash page will be modified so that there is a direct link to home.html which bypasses the animation.
