Hello All,
I am scheduled to see a 1989 911 w/73K miles over the weekend and wanted to know where I can find prices? Prioir to any negotiating I will have a PPI done. Are there any known issues for the 1989 model? TIA ![]() |

Seriously though, they are generally a bullet-proof model. For the mileage, it would be nice if there was a new clutch, which also means an engine drop and some seal work (if there were any leaks). Check oil consumption (and leakdown) for the valve guide wear problem. Otherwise, good luck!

HI aben, I have an 87 carerra with only 75,000 and I just did a top end rebuild. These engines are known to have bad valve guides and mine were toast. Since I had the motor out I replaced the pistons and cylinders, clutch, and had the heads redone to the tune of about $3800. Please get it checked out before you BUY!!

Re: price - try to obtain the latest copy of the Porsche Market Letter (October).
Looking at mine, I see 11 '89's for sale with prices from $17K for a Targa with 86K miles to $34K (dealer-way high in my opinion!) for a Cab with 47K miles. The only Coupe was listed at $23.7K with 100K miles. For the 11 cars, average listed asking price was $23.6K and average mileage was 57,500. Area of the country will affect price too; 4 of the 11 cars were from CA, 2 from NJ and the rest from the Midwest. FYI - I sold my beautiful '89 Targa 18 months ago for $27.5K with 51K miles on it. Sure wish I had more garage space!! Hope this helps. Last edited by TomTurtle; 10-31-2003 at 07:30 PM.. |
