Angry Stuck Rear Torsion Bars

Hello out there! I've searched all the threads and see quite a few torsion bar problems but none just like mine :-( On my 84 Targa the rear torsion bars are stuck inside the tube. They came off the spring plates ok but those dang things won't budge from inside. Any one out there have an idea or a similar experience? Please respond because I'm at my wits end!!

Are you replacing them or just removing them? You can use heat (torch) at the inside end, or put a hose clamp with a nut behind it, and use a slide hammer, or weld a nut on the end and yank them out.

Hey thanks for responding! I understand the slide hammer but I don't follow you on the hose clamp and nut. No way to weld, maybe drill and tap the end then yank. I will be replacing them so whatever it takes. Maybe explain the hose clamp and nut thing. Thanks again!!

I clamped a large pair of vice grips around mine, and then used a big screwdrive to leverage against the vice grips.

BTW, when you go to put the new ones in and set the spring plate angle, here's a handy calculator:
