1st trip w/ Steve W chip!
A few weeks ago the wife and I took the Pcar up to Yosemite for the weekend.
This was the first trip with Steve W's chip in the car. Great drive up to the sierras, took 120 from San Francisco. Fastest Ive ever gone up Old Priest Grade! Lots of spirited driving at altitudes from sea level to over 8000ft. Car ran great! Lots better throttle response, mid range is stronger and !!! better gas millage! Since Ive had the car Ive never been able to break the 20 mpg mark, but its been over 22 mpg and one tank over 24 mpg!! Best Ive done since Ive owned the car... Here are some photos I took on the trip... ![]() ![]() ![]() Car is a stock 1988 Targa. Only mod is the chip, but Im planning more!! Joe

joeg,
Thanks for the report. I also have an '88 Targa, and I feel like it needs a little more "go." I have a cat bypass - does anyone know if the Euro-premuffler SteveW chip also applies to bypass pipes, or should I get the "stock" chip? I didn't see the answer on Steve's website. I guess I'll email him.

I just added the Fabspeed euro pre-muff, K & N cone filter, a B & B sport muffler along with Steve's chip and its a different car. A friend with another '88 did the same mods and dyno'd it last week at 243 hp It moves the reduced weight Carrera along quite nicely

Love my SteveW chip too. Steve put mine in a few months ago, and i'm still grinning.
Hey88CS--nice to hear 'bout the dyno results. That's more than Euro model, huh? joeg--i was wondering 'bout those foglights too. Are those mounted INTO the stock foglight cutouts on the Carrera valence? Those look like PIAA's--if so, probably much better light output than the stock fogs. Mike '86 coupe

Mike, Don't quote me but I believe the Euro CS's were pushing about 231 vs 217 in the US. They have the cat by pass but its my understanding that they also ran slightly higher compression. If a euro car was to add a sport muffler, they be where I am.

AFAIK the fog lites are PIAA. They came with the car...
They fit in the original cutouts, but its a tight fit. The PO had them wired up so they are controlled by the fog lite sw. The yellow comes on with low beam and switches to the driving lite side with the hi beams. Lots of light when you need it. Im planning on putting a relay in to take the load off the hi beam sw... Joe

I'll second the Steve W chip - transformed my car with the premuffler and dual out dansk over this side.

Hi all! Thanks again for all your support and the great marketing you are doing for me. Joe, thanks for the feedback and glad you like the chip - it's that secret 'use less fuel to get more power' code, or 'get more power from the same amount of fuel' - however you want to look at it ;-).
Cowtown, if you have a cat bypass, you would want the chip programmed for the premuffler/catbypass setup, as the bypass is more aerodynamically efficient than the stock ceramic cat. Email me if you have any questions though: steve@911chips.com Best of luck all. |
