fitting t/bars question - i have tight space to work in.
 

i needed an excuse to try a post.

i am getting ready (at last) to fit new front/rear t/bars and bushings.

thing is my garage space is tight. i had intended to do one end first then the other, but now i'm thinking of doing each side in turn. has anyone done this? any comments?

should make for interesting handling mid swap.;)

I would do front and rears separately rather than one side at a time. On the rears, you may find you have to force one of the torsion bars out by using a long rod from the opposite side. I'd hate to see you install a new rear only to find out later that you have to take it off to insert a bar for the opposite side. One side on mine was stuck and I had to drive a bar through from the opposite side to get it out. You say your space is tight, but try to center your car such that you allow enough space on each side of your car to insert about a 4 ft pole (just in case). They may come out by twisting, turning, and yanking or like mine, one may have frozen on the inner splines. Doesn't hurt to plan for the unforseen.

thanks, that is a good point. i also have been thinking that the front and rear sways should be disconnected on both sides.

unfortunately, i do not have enough space to centre the car and work on both sides. plus i have to get a sports m/bike in there o/night!!

i will probably plan to start one way or another next weekend.

Let us know how you get on with the rears. I'm going to have to lower mine at the back. I keep putting it off but it's 1.5 inches higher than the front instead of the recommended 1/2 inch lower.

Wouldn't it be easier (in case anything doesn't go to plan) to do it outside and give you access to both sides of the car.

were you able to deal with your rear torsion bars / small garage situation? Did you end up doing 1 side at a time? I'm going to be starting the same project, and only have 8'-6" clear inside my garage, so have the same dilemma.

yes, i got it done.

it wass pretty easy, the only risk is that you can't get a bar out and need to push it out from the other side. one of mine was stuck but 10 mins of moevment freed it.
