Actually I did drive it, and it was pretty exciting. The motor has a popular 2.4S upgrade per Bruce A's book and it just screams even though there's a ton of miles on that rebuild.

Knowing myself, I'll probably be jazzed about it again sometime soon, just have to get the Boxster thing out of my head!

RetroSC,

Keep going, man! You can do it!!!

Sure there you go, you went out and drove a Boxster and it gave you the instant gratifacation that you wanted. Because you are single and you are busy. It is easy to do, it (Boxster) starts, runs good, top up and down when needed, heater works, plenty of power.
Like I wrote earlier, I have been there. I had a bunch of 914s.
I think it was 6, that were sitting in storage and not getting driven. Sold them and bought a 99 black Boxster. Love the car. Still have it and drive it when I can.
I also have 6 914s again, but I can take them out and drive them and work on them when I want. The Boxster you change lenses and shift knobs and add this and take away that, but you don't really get in there and work of it like the 14s.
Why don't you go out and drive a nice driver type 914, not a rusty project ca, that way you can have the Porsche driving experience for not a lot of $$. I know flame on. Just my $.02 worth.
I also have a n 83sc cab and a 73 911 sunroof coupe silver, along with a 29 Ford full fender pickup. I love all of these cars and I drive them all.
Good luck , you will make the decision , for you.

This is what I think. I would love to have a project car. But I won't do it till I have a garage space elusively dedicated to it and get the 911 I have the way I want it. Then I could start a 356 or another 911 from scratch. But I couldn't live without a running 911 now.

Boxstr, you nailed it! I'm ready to enjoy something NOW! I've got the vintage bike's to toy with in the meantime, but right now, I'd like something I can drive to work whenever and just plain enjoy, that's kind of why I sold the SC.

I'm still gonna wait this out though. History has taught me that I like to change my mind about stuff frequently, but man I'm itichin for a boxster!!

Retro, encountered the same situation myself about 10 months ago. I bought a 99 boxster to use while I finish my project 70 911. It offers instant gradification and allows to attend PCA events and socials without using my work truck. But believe me, the urge or feeling of the 911 CANNOT be replaced. Don't mislead yourself. Present boxcar pricing allows it to be a second p-car. Continue the project, you'll never know what you missed.
