Curt, has anything been published about a schedule for the weekend? I did not see anything at the ofiicial site and was wondering, for travel reasons, if Sunday will be a full day of races.

I have suggested to James Redman that they consider running a twilight enduro on Sat. evening. I know it would be fun for those of us who are racing since we never get to run under the lights and Daytona is the perfect venue for this. I would imagine it would also be cool for the spectators since you will get to see how it really was when these cars were running plus it makes for great photo ops. !! As far as the shedule goes, at the first one they had a concours on Sunday since LRP forbids racing on Sunday. Hopefully Daytona will have some racing on Sunday.

Cheers, James

The schedule's not out yet. I think we should plan a get together sometime during the weekend, either at the track during a break or maybe Saturday evening.

As far as the caravan goes, Cornpanzer and I are going to need to sit down with a map and figure out a route in the coming weeks. We'd like to pickup as many cars as possible along the way but don't want to turn it into a logistical nightmare involving dozens of pickup points and lots of 'waiting around time' either. -- Curt

At last! An excuse to buy some hood-mounted driving lights!

That's great Jim! BTW, is the 911 going to be ready to go by April???? I know this run is giving me and quite a few others an incentive to get a bunch of projects done this winter!!

Curt, the car will be ready to go. Thinking about the logistics of the drive though, it seems to me that I would need 2 days of driving each way and three days for the reunion. I'm just not sure right now if I can get away for 7 days in April as that's usually a busy time for the business. If I fly in Thur. afternoon and leave Sun. night it becomes a lot more feasable timewise.

I dunno, I love long drives and heading south that time of year sure would feel nice. Maybe what I will do is make plane resv. and play it by ear to see what's going on as the date draws nearer, and do the drive if I can get away.

Andras - my wife just reminded me that I had made the reservation through Travelocity.com so maybe that is how I got the $32 rate. Either way I just checked the confirmation and it is $128 for the 4 nights.

A twilight race would sure be cool! Let's hope it happens.

Curt/Jim/Everyone:

I am also going to use this trip as a goal for getting the 912 back on the road. Curt, thanks for getting this thing moving. I am really looking forward to it.

Dave, glad you're going to make it. Are you rebuilding the 4 or dropping in a 6? Any word from Peter Egan??

And with all of this peer pressure I just may cave in and drive after all.

John:

Are you running your car in the event? Jim and I are planning on running our '68 #60 and our '74 #14 IROC. Hotels are already booked.

I ran a night race (1 hour enduro) earlier this spring at the Sebring HSR race and I have to say that it was one of the more surreal events I have participated in. Especially turn #17 (back straight turning off of the runway) where you can't tell where the edge of the track is. We (and every other 911) ran light bars with 4 huge hella lights (two facing forward and two angled off at 45 degrees) that attached under the hood to the front hood pins and inside fender walls. Simple and efficient setup.

Curt:

Perhaps this time we'll get a chance to meet. (you stopped by our pits at the HSR race at Watkin's Glen and took some nice pictures that you forwarded to me). We'll probably be pitted near the 901 shop or Ecurie racing again.

Jim,

The plan is to take the 4 cylinder motor to the limits of the Solo II rules for my class (FSP) because I have concluded the car cannot be competitive in other classes without spending A LOT of money. So, a four cylinder it is.

I know for a fact that my correspondence and writing samples have been delivered to Egan but I haven't heard from him yet. I was told by my friend/courier that he's a busy, busy guy and that I should be patient. And I am.

Good to hear from you. I think you should drive down as well. Curt's I-77 offer sounds good, but if you're coming I'd rather meet up with you and take the coast roads. Of course, this is all dependant on the vacation schedule. I was just hired by a firm yesterday and to be honest, I don't even know how much vacation I'll have. I never asked.

Later,

David

I called the Ramada this evening and was told $99 per night instead of the $89 that Curt was given. Pisses me off. $10 per night isnt what makes me mad. The desk clerk sez "Is that for the Porsche race.....special price of $99" I said, "funny, my buddy who called three days ago got it for $89 and HE IS THE GUY WHO TOLD YOU THERE WAS A PORSCHE RACE!!!!" I hate being dicked around with!

Don't take any guff from those swine! We should get a list together and threaten to cancel unless we all get a special group rate.

Nah, I signed up for the $99 rate. $10 a night is no big deal....besides I would rather stand next to you during check in and question "Jim" as to why he lied when he told me that you had the same $99 rate that I was given =)

I guess we'll need to fill up on shampoo, soap, and towels to get our extra $10 worth. Well, either that, or use the bathtub for a parts degreaser or something ......... -- Curt
