88 Carrera Carpet Kit Install
Alright, before anyone answers this question with a "Duhhhhhh!" please know that I am serious here. I have ordered a complete carpet kit from Autos Int'l to redo my 88 Signature Edition Carrera. My question is there are numerous pieces, i.e. rear wall, back of fold down rear seats, etc. that are a little more complicated than just laying them in on the floor or screwing them down. Can anyone tell me if there is a resource for complete instructions to installing a carpet kit? Am I gluing a lot of this down? Best way to remove old glued carpet? What moulding needs to be removed to install back wall carpet? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a thin sound deadening material to put between the sheet metal and the carpet?

I'm planning the same project to help keep me out of trouble over the winter. I've been looking at carpet sets from World Upholstery & Trim. Do you have the website address for your supplier?

I bought an OEM carpet set from World Upholstery and Trim and was quite happy with the kit. I started at the far back of the car (84) and worked slowly forward changing a piece at a time and never removing more than a few pieces at any one time because there are 23 pieces in the set and its easy to get off by a few inches if you are fnot careful. My old carpet came right out with a good pull and I scrapped off the old remenants with a sharp wood chisel. I used the spray on adhesive with the adjustable spray heads and that works great . Took about 3 cans. I used thin carpet padding (the fiberous rebond type on all the floor areas, however if your inside gets wet, I would avoid it because it will not dry easily. The project is a LOT of work but is VERY rewarding. Use a heat gun on the stubborn spots to soften the adhesive before pulling (not a hair dryer) You can see my web site for a few pics of the project
