Installing a new Relay socket in a SC

This seemed easy on paper.

After installing a oil cooler in my 1983 911SC, I'm trying to wire a fan to the cooler thru a relay. I've got a new relay and socket and was planning to use the open spot on the relay panel in the trunk.

I've dismounted the panel from the body to be able to push the socket in from the back. Try as I might, I can't get the new socket pushed in far enough to snap into place. Is there a trick to this or is it just a matter of brute force?

Thanks
Brian

Here's the trick...but be careful...don't go too far.

Push it in from the front. But also...warm the rubber housing with a hair dryer or such...not too much as it will re-shape the unit...just get it fairly warm...and it'll pop right in.

It also helps to use some lube like soapy water or silicone spray. Also get one side started, then with a pick, go around and help the lip to seat.
