It should say "VW 1303 S". Round-windshield Super Beetles are 1303 and flat-windshield Supers are 1302. "L", "S", and "LS" are trim levels. All US market Super Beetles were LS cars to my knowledge.

You guys may find www.germanlook.com interesting.

Those 964 rims have some serious *bling*bling* when matched with those GTIs. The polished look is nice, but they really need to be done in gold to complete the package. Who knew that Porsche was hip to the *bling* even before the word was invented. Word to the 964 my homies, word.

alright...alright...I'll admit it...I'm probably the only one that has bigger rims on my GTi than my 911.

I saw this modified VW Bug in Singapore and took some shots of it. It seems to have some type of Porsche rims on it.

But can anyone point out of it has any other mods? Lowering? Different hood? What model year is this? I don't know why, but there is something very Porschesque about it...
Ho ho.... This is my friend's car. I'm from Singapore as well. The world is very small, ya? You were in Singapore? Should have given me a tinker. I too have a German looker like his.

It's a '74 1303S, which translates into a 1974 VW Super Beetle (curved windscreen with MacPherson struts) with a 1.6l engine. The 1303 had a 1.3l powerplant.

The blinkers on stock cars were on the top of the fenders till '74. In '75, they shifted it into the bumpers. The black-out trim is somewhat like the difference between the middle years 911 and the '78-on SCs. On the Bug, it's a styling exercise.

The front spoiler you see is made by Kamei. I have an original Kamei chin spoiler too. It makes an amazing difference when you are doing more than 100mph. My Bug can do 110mph easy.

The rear spoiler is from Carbon Joe and yes, it's made from real cf. Unlike the chin spoiler, it's not a period accessory though...

On my Super, I've converted to 911 wipers and made a 3 gauge dash for it, a la 914. In every way, my Bug is a mini-911. And I love him a lot. Or should I say 912, since they are flat-4s. Hehe...

Here are a couple pics of mine. Yes, he's ugly as hell, off to the paint shop soon, but he scares the **** outta Hondas.... Note the plates on him. There's a matching 911 plate I wish I bought : EZ 911 A. Ahh... The agony of not having enough money....

List of mods...

911 4-spoke steering wheel.
911 wiper system (which all German lookers lack. You need this to complete the package!)
911 seats
914 dash (911 dash in the works)
912 gauges
944 brakes and suspension (upgrading to 944 Turbo when I get $$)
17" Boxster Twist rims.
Berg 5 tranny with Quaiffe LSD
Cabrio hood/bonnet as opposed to the sedan one

Did I miss out anything?

Front. See Kamei chin spoiler, 911 wipers, 17" Twists and that all-infamous plate I got... Hehe...

See the 3-gauge dash and 4-spoke wheel. Trim to be blackout out when I send him in for paint. Horace is going to be Lapis Blue!!!

A shot from the rear. He's using the stock steel fenders as I prefer the narrow-body vs. wide-body. More subtle eh? Hehe...

And that is a rain deflector there. They usually come with either a rain catcher under the vents or a shield over them.

Sprint.

Yes, the US cars are LS spec. The L refers to trim and the S refers to engine.

The standard (what a pun!) 1303 has a 1.3l engine whereas the S get a 1.6l powerplant. Of coz you have the 1303L and 1303LS too, which denoted nicer trim.

Sprint.

You're quite right, they do. And yes it looks suprisingly good. I also like the Beetles with Porsche wheels.

No need to redrill VW rotors any longer ... there have been aftermarket rotors and drums available for decades with 5 x 130 mm pattern!

Hah! Amazing! Show your friend these photos, I'm sure he'll remember the wierd guy taking photos of his car over on Orchard St. like 2-3 weeks ago in Singapore. He had his wife in the back I think, and his son/daughter in the front seat in a babyseat. His wife was looking at me with the "why is this guy taking photos of our car?" expression on her face.
