3.2 Transplant Fuel Problem?
I am currently in the later stages of putting a 85 3.2 engine into a 73 911t. I will keep this as short as possible. Yeah right! : ) The Car starts\rumbles when ether is prayed in the intake. I have never had even a slight cough from the engine with gas(no sign of life). I have a brand new fuel pump all new fuel lines all the way to the engine. I assume /hope the check valve on the pump is good because it is brand new. All electronics have been checked over by a friend who works for porschecars of North America. I have installed new plugs streel braided wires cap and rotor. I must have spark seing as how it starts with ether. I replaced everything else beacuse I figured I might have a weak spark which would ignite ether and not gas. I did get a brighter spark after doing all of this. But still no start!
So the other day I decided to pull the injector rail and test the spray of each injector in a glass jar. I did not get anything. Can I do this test only having one injector hooked up at a time? What would create a situation where nothing at all would come out. Does this sound like a pressure regulator or damper problem? If these where failing woudn't I just have too much pressure? I have tested the injectors for the pulse that is created by the dme with a tester and it shows good. how could I be getting no fuel at all. If I break the connection in the rail there seems to be fuel in the line but no pressure. Every once in a while there is pressure. Only rarely.I even pulled each individual injector and tested them as well. They all clicked and where in working order. I know my relay is engaging and sending 12 volts to the pump I hear the fuel pumping if I have a friend crank it and I get under the car and listen. I also tested the 12 volts present after the sensor on the tranny sees motion. I ordered a pressure tester from Pelican and the adapter did not work with the 3.2 fuel rail. Does anyone know the correct one for a 85 3.2 engine? If I can get the tester this would answer alot of questions. Any input anyone might have to offer would be greatly appreciated. I'm going crazy!!!!!!! Thanks Matt Last edited by MMe025; 09-22-2003 at 10:35 AM.. |

Ok, where to start.
First, to see if there is fuel pressure. There is a 19mm nut on one of the fuel rails, be sure not to loose the small steel ball inside. I have a fitting that will work, email me if you need it. If your fuel pump is running chances are that pressure is good. Have you measured the gap for the reference and speed sensors on the flywheel? The Bently manual does a nice job of describing the procedure. If the sensors wires are switched, this could cause a problem. Also, let us know what tools you have to work with, like wiring diagrams manuals etc.

Okay,
I finally was able to do the pressure test. as I crank the car it goes up to right around 35-40 psi and then as I stop cranking it slowy goes away. down to 20 psi in less than a minute. Where could this be leaking? I have checked all my injectors they all seem to be functioning correctly. I pulled each one individualy. My pump is brand new so I really don't want to believe it is the check valve there. Where els could the fuel be going? Matt |

Does the 3.2 have a cold start valve? they usualy give the motor a shot of gas when the motor is cold, Kevin
