Another 3.6 nearly ready for install, wating for a "top secret" exhaust from the Great Northwest...



Some new oil lines, sway-a-ways, Bilsteins and T-bars


single pulley conversion + powder coated components (All Reed does ROCK!)


Some modified SC tin (I guess SC's are good for something!! kidding...just kidding I don't want a visit from the SC men in black

C'mon Embs.....what's the deal with the top secret exhaust? I see you're running stock HE's so I want in on your secret. It's OK, no one else is here...just us. I'm listening...

Sorry, I promised I wouldn't tell...But I will be running the Stock HE's it's cheap heat and I won't be convinced that headers flow any better. If my exhaust goes well I am sure they will be available to anyone who wants them soon.

You're killin me man! I may end up paying my wrench a small fortune to fab something in the next two days! How about some details? Direct bolt-on? Dual out? Tips? Cost? When will it be available?

It will bolt directly to the HE's, it will have two O2 bungs (one or both could be plugged), No cat (so it's for off-road use only )
Dual outlet, should be ready in a few more weeks.
That's it, I have said to much..I don't want to pi$$ this guy off. I have convinced him that the 3.6 crowd needs a muffler that will bolt to 993 exchangers.

You must be more persuasive tham I am. I tried to convince him to do this a year ago with no luck.

If it works and sounds as good as Superman says it does this may be the new standard.

Sounds like everyone knows the story but me. OK, here's a question you can answer. Would I be wise to run with a cat only with tail pipes for a few weeks, or is this a real long-shot?

I need to make some quick decisions and if this setup has promise, and isn't mega bucks, I'd prefer to wait rather than spend $,$$$ for an unknown result. Thanks. Feel free to PM me.

Todd and I have communicated about this in the past. The price should be around $320 or so. If it works, it will save you a lot of $. Todd can answer about the timetable.

OK. Will weld some tips onto the cat and scream around for a while. It'll also be nice to have the cat for the sniffer. Sounds like patience may pay off.

When I was done buying parts for my Conversion project I was flat broke and was still missing a muffler.


I first tried with some home made mufflers welded on the center section of the 993 Cat but soon found this to be to loud and crappy looking.

I then did this and have been werry happy with it.





I used a modified stock pre 74 2 inn muffler

This is the approach shown on Steve Weiners website. Very clean look. How does the '72 muffler handle the high output 3.6? is it restrictive?

The only problem I had (I discussed this with Steve Weiner) was the O2 sensor in your configuration only gets input from one bank of cylinders and then adjusts all six based on that input. While most of the time you wouldn't have any issues, there is NO input coming from the 3 cyls that aren't monitored. That could be a serious issue IMHO.

How does the '72 muffler handle the high output 3.6? Is it restrictive?

I did open the muffler and ripped some of the internals out and I measured the car at 4.8 seconds 0 - 62 mph, and I measure about the same temp on the pipes running from the HE as with my old straight thru muffler after a hard drive

I do not have a welder and am at the mercy of muffler shops. It looked to complicated for them so I had to move on.

It is not that complicated just a matter of blocking of the old inlets and making new holes for the pipes from the HE it does take some time to get it lined up properly.

I have thought of that but came to the conclusion that there is no stopping just one of the cyls going rich and leaning out the other five in the original setup.
I think the ideal solution would be to have EGT measurements on both banks maybe even one for each cyl.

Thanks for the info Erik, Please intrude all you like, there more information we share the better the BBS is. Your right about the one cylinder going rich, I guess if you have one O2 sensor it doesn't really matter as much.

Well Thom's CF tube of course! I kept the CF tube and sold the plastic one.
