I was talking with a co-worker this morning and he said he thould there was a year that the 911 3.0 ltr came with a timing belt not a chain. Is that true? If so, does anybody know the reason.

I met a 911SC owner this summer a local car show and he was explaining to me that his car had power steering. Maybe he's related to you co-worker?

A supposed automotive journalist told a friend of mine that the Porsche engine was called a "boxer" because it fit nicely in a standard shipping "box."

A woman DMV inspector was looking at the VIN in my 911 trunk last month and while looking at the gas tank, she said, "Is that the engine or is it in the back?" BTW, she only looked at the plate, never bothered with the stamped no. on the inner fender. And I know my plate has been removed and reattached.
This thread is gonna be a good one. |

Actually, that was the 921. Curb feelers were standard on that model.

I thought it sounded strange, but I'm not to familiar with later model cars. The interesting thing is, he's owned a couple of 356's and a 912. I'll tell him he's smokin' some funny stuff!
![]() Edit: I meant; I'm not "too" familiar with later model cars. That's my pet-peeve, and now I'm guilty of it. ![]()

Maybe he meant the 3.0 16valve that went into the 44's, cause that motor has a chain between cams and a timing belt for the whole assembly.

Reminds of the time I took my dad to register his V12 BMW, the guy at the DMV would not believe us and insisted of listing it as a 6 cylinder. The he had the bright idea of counting the plugs, came up with 24 plugs and the car is still registered as a 24 cylinder BMW.
Agree, ignorance should be painful

Has anyone witnessed a DMV inspector using the "mirror on a stick" to make sure the Cat was intact .... and looking underneath the middle of the car?

I've been told that the big fan in the back of my engine is a turbo;" all Porsches are turbos you know."

Many people call the Mercedes SLK a "Kompresser," because that's what it says on--as I remember--the front fender. As in, "Yes, I drive a Kompresser. My husband gave it to me for Christmas..."

There is a 3.0 with a timing belt. But not for valve actuation.
The SCRS had MFI which uses a toothed timing belt. So there!

You know a gentleman approached my car one time and told me that he worked on porsche all the time and how easy they were. Then he asked me to pop the lid so he could see the motor, so i turned around to open the deck lid and when i turned back he was standing in front of the car waiting for the trunk to open. LOL

A guy stopped me on a parking lot last week, said he had a Turbo when he was in college (although he was driving a beater GMC van - guess times have been tough). He told me that most people don't know that the Turbos would go 240 right off the showroom floor. Said he used to do that all the time. Drug-induced brain damage is a sad thing, ain't it?
