dying the dash
Regardless if I do the Headliner at the time I want to Dye the dash black from the crappy shade of camel (brown) that it is. Can it be done with the window in (Okay I know it can't be) but has anyone given it a shot?
thanks (Soon to be all back interior including RSR panels) |

I "dyed" my entire SC interior from that "crappy brown" to black, using the highly regarded stuff from that lady in New Jersey--can't remember the name, but it's not Leatherique.
Two things to know: 1/You're not "dying" the leather, you're painting it. It's a surface treatment, nothing more, and that means that if you're going from a comparatively light color to a very dark one, you risk the former color popping through in high-stress areas where the black "paint" might get nicked, scratched or otherwise distressed. If you're painting black with black, that's not going to matter much, but baby-diarrhea brown to black does. 2/Surface preparation is very important, and it requires removing as much as possible of the former paint. You do this with sandpaper, steel wool, scraping and lacquer thinner, over and over again until you're down to the original leather. I don't know how you'll be able to manage that very successfully with the dash in the car, to say nothing of with the windscreen in place. Stephan
