Question about Rust

My car has some of the notorious rust in and around one of my battery boxes. My question is do you simply cut out and weld in new steel around the effected areas or can one go out and buy a new inner fender? I've breifly looked around and have not seen this panel offered for sale. Is this considered part of the tub?

I've attached a picture of of the area in question. This however is not my car as it looks more solid.

Thanks for any information from anyone who has been there.

The battery box can be purchased as a separate unit. Our host should be able to get them for you.

Reg,
Sounds like you decided to keep your car. Congrats. It's always been a favorite of mine.

Welding in a new inner fender is a pretty massive project, and not really warranted by a bit of rust here and there, which can be patched. Check my web site for (far too many) examples of rust repair.

For kicks, you could order an entire new front body section. $4,544.91!
Or just a new inner fender; $1,938.58!! Wow.

Hard to tell from the one pic, but your car looks pretty solid. Nice.

This is definitely a candidate for patching, but be aware that the entire area from the base of the battery box down and in to the front pan seam is likely to be too far gone to weld to. Clean away the affected metal aggressively and you can patch with formed sheet metal or we can supply you with a stock pan piece cut to fit.

I never wanted to sell my car. I've just not had enough time and $$ to do all the things I'd like. To top that off, I've just sunk $1100 into the MR2 still having to repalce its struts and tires.

I am going out for a run today, perhaps the last one of the year. It's sunny and bright but a brisk 32F. I have good storage and the car is paid for so all is well!

Guy's that is not my car. I'll try to post a few pics soon to show you the areas in question. I think I will have to patch as those prices are pretty steep for me!
