Pro: well, now you have a cab
Con: well, now you have the leaks and squeaks that go with it. I guess there's no reason you couldn't just put on a boot *coughghettocough* but you'll have to pad the edges of the body some how to keep from cutting into your top. Here's some pix from when I did mine. http://vintagebus.com/howto/cab/

I'd have to dig it out, but I believe the factory Targa to Cab conversion service info manual says that you will adversely affect the structural rigidity of a Targa prior to MY 1981 if you do the conversion.

The guy that is restoring my 73E Targa has done these conversions before. I understand that he does beautiful work. Here are some pix of a Targa >> Cab conversion that he has done. If you are interested, PM me and I will give you his contact information.

That was a car I was building for myself. It sat unfinished until someone offered to buy it finished from me. So that was the motivation/money for me to finish it. I really is/was a nice car and I will always regret selling it, but I can always build another I guess. It was a 73E that had been burned in the back so I replaced entire quarters with sc quarters, redid the rest of car, which was a real solid Ca. car, and did the neccessary cab conversion. The color is meteor gray metallic which is an absolutlely gorgeous color.
Cab conversions are rather easy, the hardest part is to find a pre '86 top w/o the roller latches. Then get the brackets from eurotek start measureing and welding. In the end, the top fit perfectly and looks Oh so noce on an early body car. Mike |
