Another RS replica is born...

Just wanted to share our project with everyone. I finally got the web site all completed...not sure which is harder, restoring the car or building the web-page.

http://members.cox.net/chris911rs/1969%20Porsche.htm

Enjoy the pics and I welcome your suggestions.

Chris

Can you give us some details as to how you dealt with the Maaco folks?

The car looks great. And I can't believe it was done by Maaco.
Cool.

Thanks for the positive response on the new car!

To answer a couple questions....

As far a Maaco goes, you have to be very clear with them what you want them to do and what your expectations are. Do as much prep work as you can yourself. Remove everything that you don't want them to paint! I removed ALL the seals, windows, trim and anything else that was bolted down! I did not remove the front fenders or the doors as I did not have them paint the jams. They were able to match this very well and blend with no tape lines or overspray...but I was very clear on my expectaions here. I would go through and have them apply several layers of clear after the paint and I would upgrade to the highest quality paint they can get. The shop we used, dealt with Dupont. Overall, we are very happy with the quality of the job and at $1500 you can't beat it. The paint job on this car is better than some $6000 paint jobs I have seen!

And for Curt... here is a few pictures of the black RS.

I have always maintained that some of the best spraymen in the business work for volume paint shops. That's all they do all day long. You're right, it's the prep. You give these guys a well prepared car and good paint (as long as the paint is compatable with thier systems) and you will get a beautiful job.

Boy that looks great, I really like that color! I'm curious, you seemed to be moving at Jack O. speed...how long did the project take start to finish?

The green car was completed in about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks working time. I had to schedule trips home from college to work on it so the whole project lasted a few months start to finish.

The black car is still not completed and probably won't be till the end of next summer... Still gathering parts
