I have to sell my metal baby because a real live baby is on his way. Is any one interested?

If you can find a way to keep it you will be happy. My daughter is 8 months old, and I wish I had a P car for my time.

We have a baby due in the next week. It was a long, tough conversation, but we decided some months ago that the 911 had to stay. I had to make some sacrifices on other things, but the car stays. I will not be allowed to drive the baby in it, but I can drive it otherwise.
Try to see if you can keep it. It would be a shame to let it go now, especially with the market as depressed as it is. You likely will lose some $ on it. Good luck, and congrats!

Have a friend who is looking. What are you asking for it?

70 911SC,
Don't do it! There is nothing is your marriage vows that says you have to get rid of your toys - and besides, this is not a toy, it is transportation. I have two small chidren, one 10 and the other 12, who have grown up with the 911SC, and they love it. Kids can fit in the back until they are about 10 years old, and then one of them can fit in the back until maturity. Also, one of the reasons your wife probably fell in love with you was because you were an interesting person, were young at heart, and were interesting, not because you had a 911, but of you were also fun and happy driving it. Does she want you to become an old fuddy-duddy?

My 4 year old and my 18 month old love driving in the "cool car". They are properly buckled in - I don't speed (much) when they are in the car.
Don't deny your future kids this experience! BTW - the back seats are THE perfect size for kids! My 4 year old always requests to be picked up from School in the "cool car" - and that's the name he came up with for it.

My son was born April, I bought my 911 in May. Babies aren't as expensive as teenagers, although they do consume considerably more time. Unless you need the money to pay for the birth, I would hold off on selling your SC.

Our 6 month old daughter has cost more in time than money. (Worth every minute, by the way). Not sure why your 911 needs to go anywhere, mine have stayed firmly planted in the family.
Depends on your personal situation of course, but just make sure this isn't some sort of knee-jerk response.

9 out of 10 child psychologists scholars agree that childen who grow up in households with a Porsche have a higher IQ, achieve higher grades and make for a more responsible adult.
Seriously, good luck with the new baby.

79-911SC, don't do it. This was definitely a point of contention for our family, especially with three little boys (ok, four including me) and winters that make the 911 a 6 month/yr car. Until I found a 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon with 150K miles. I bought it on EvilBay, of all places, and paid $2250 plus $250 shipping from Chicago to Minneapolis. Yes it needed some maintenance (I replaced timing belt, H2O pump, plugs, cap, rotor, and a set of tires), but it's a great car. Black, leather interior. Even came with a Thule rack and Alpine CD. They run forever (many have 300K) are easy to work on, and hold a LOT of stuff. More than most SUVs as a matter of fact. So that's the utility car and I get to keep the SC, which does have quite useable back seats for kids. The Britax baby seat fits back there.

Hey 79:
Another thought. There are many Posters here on the BBS who bemoan the fact that they sold their Porsche, and who, many years later, wish they could get it back. I know I miss my 356SC Canrio!!!!!! This BBS knows of only one case, in which a son-in-law found the very car that his wife's now-deceased father had owned, and he bought it for her in his memory. Nice story, but the other point is, once the car is gone, it's gone. And what do you think your chances are of getting another 911SC of equal shape, or equal value, for the same money you got for your "metal" baby? Money isn't everything, and as the deigner of the Ferarri Modena once stated, the only important things in life are "Good food, good wine, good sex, and a Porsche". Ruminate on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

79-911SC,
Keep it ... you'll need it to keep your sanity at times. I need my toys when I get a chance to take a break from my 2.5yo/9mo boys. Time for car upkeep might suffer, but its nice to just look at them and say "aaahhhh." Besides, the kids think its the coolest thing - my 2.5yo cried all afternoon when he realized I put my '66 Mustang into storage for the winter. The car is a good babysitter too when you're doing something quick in the garage - the kids just love to sit in them and "drive." I won't even get into how much they love actually going for a ride - some of the cutest things you'll ever hear/see them do.

I got a baby coming in about 11 weeks myself.
The other night my brother in law asked if I was going to sell the Porsche, immediately my wife broke into the conversation and stated that 'he is not going to sell that car, he loves it too much!' enough said

When I got married, got a much larger mortgage and the kids started showing up I too had to dispose of some "toys". I always regretted it and deep down I ressented it a little. Does that make me shallow?
I'm not sure if it hurt the relationship or not but I am sure it didn't help it. Years later I started re-accumulating some non-essential but fun machines and I'm much happier. If I had to do it over again I would find a different solution. I came up with a creative way of making a few bucks here and there on e-bay and that helps. I don't have to use household money to support my P-habit. Maybe something along those lines? |

DON'T SELL!
You've got a demanding infant, a hormonally-charged breast-feeding wife, and some serious sleep deprivation on the way. Your Porsche may be your only safe haven for some well-deserved Daddy-alone time.

I bought mine after my first. The second is on it's way in 3 months. I'm selling my BMW (motorcycle), but not my SC. Aint going to happen, no way, no how. Working on my car is something I will share with my children. Letting them drive it? Now, that's a horse of a different color.
