Good news!... I lost some low-end torque.
After a year of frustration and more money than I care to think about, the car is running GREAT! I took it out and pushed it hard on the back roads. The 1.75" B&B headers with a Dynomax crossflow muffler have reduced the backpressure of my previous POS exhaust experiment. The result is a huge shift to the right on the power curve.
Before, the car really had too much low end grunt. First gear was nearly useless. There is still great low-end pull, but now I've got great response at higher revs. Man is this motor fun above 4,000 RPM. You can feel the Varioram open at about 5,000 RPM and it shuts off at about 2,500 on decel. I can't explain how new headers and muffler cured my idle problems, but it idles nice and steady now. So when are the Bay Area Pelicans planning a little drive?
