Hazard Warning Switch Q
My hazard warning light switch on the centre console does not light up at night with the other panel lights. But flashes red OK when the hazards are in use.
Q - should the switch be lit at night? If so, any ideas on the source of the problem? How do I remove the switch to investigate? Trivial problems, but it bugs me that the switch is dark at night. Thanks. |
I have a euro '80 that works just like yours. The red hazard light only come on when they're flashing. I never thought about it until I saw a post here saying something about USA cars having the hazard light illuminated when the headlights are on. Perhaps it's a euro/USA thing? Does the hazard light switch illuminate when the headlights are on in a USA car?

Thanks for your post Rob. Perhaps there's no problem at all? Seems strange that it should not be illuminated - certainly looks strange at night.

US hazard buttons light when the headlight are on. Not full on, but sorta glowing. I suspect your's is the same. My '74 did not until I cleaned connections of a ground wire (brown) that went from the back of the switch to a terminal block under the dash near the ash tray. Several grounds were plugged in there..all correoded. From some of the dash and defroster panel lights.

I'd have to say it's a bit weird to *have* it on. Since I'm a new owner, everytime I turn right, I see it out of the corner of my eye and think: what the hell is that!!
