Question refurbished cylinders? Any good?

All,
Just out of sher curiosity, anyone had any luch using "refurbished" cylinders in their rebuilds? I read Leland Pate's article, and he stated:

"One of the other options includes, buying a set of new pistons and cylinders. Obviously this would be the best route to go but I simply could not afford to spend $2500 on pistons and cylinders. So, I kept looking for other alternatives. I found a place in Reno, Nevada who offered a “reconditioning service”. They have the ability to re-size and re-plate the Mahles and re-impregnate the KS cylinder barrels using some pretty advanced methods. Both of these services are much cheaper than buying new pistons and cylinders.

My car originally had Mahles installed but I ended up putting a reconditioned set of 9.3:1 CR, KS pistons and cylinders in my motor."

Anyone else use similar P/C's on their rebuilds? how did they perform? Just gearing up for an eventual rebuild, I guess....

R/
Dustin

Dustin-
I have just purchased a set of these (from EBS in Sparks, Nv). They sure look impressive, but can't yet vouch for their performance. They are not cheap at $750/set, plus $100 to machine the top surface if needed (was in may case). It makes sense for some motor configurations, and not for others. Some Mahle sets of pistons/cylinders are reasonably priced, others, not.

Looks like I need to edit that article... it should be "Sparks, NV."

EBS is the place to go for machining and replating.
Pelican is the best at parts and accessories... but they don't have a machine shop just yet.

Call EBS and talk to John... tell 'em I sent you.
