O2 Sensor on 84 Carrera

Folks,

I searched but did not get a conclusive answer on the best route to go for replacing my O2 sensor. Car has about 32k on it and I never replaced the sensor which was since it had 23k on it. I am assuming it has never been changed and was going to change it out. Our host has a sesor for $190 something

So I heard there is the 2 wire oor 3 wire dealio and a way to make the cheaper ones work or should I just stick with the right one? I am assuming the expensive one is a Bosch and the others are not?

I've been using generic heated sensors on my '88 for over 5 years. You can take the old one to a local parts store and see what they have. You'll have to splice the wires.

There was a raging debate about doing this a few months ago. Something about oxygen needing to be able to come in through the insulation of the wire, or some such. Very entertaining reading if you feel like searching for it.

I don't think it ever ended in anything definitive, and my experience has been just fine with the $35 generics.

Hope this helps.

From the Bosch site: http://www.boschusa.com/AutoParts/PartFinder/partfinder.asp

Shows OEM and Generic part numbers.

Basically, most Bosch 3 wire O2 sensors are the same. IMHO, use the cheapest 3 wire Bosch unit available (Maybe Ford number)

Check this thread to see what I did on my 84 (cost about $40)
