1974 Coupe Trunk question
Riddle me this:
I've only seen the interior of my 1974 coupe's trunk with the carpeting out. Every other car I've seen with the kit installed. Anyway, there are pieces of the carpet that have holes in them in the front left (driver's side) corner, probably from acidic build-up on the battery terminals. Does the 911 have some sort of cover that prevents the carpet from coming in contact with the battery? Thanks, Jason

Jason,
Try to get a 944 battery topper; then cut one new tab out to clear the wires, and you now have a cover for the battery. It's a quick installation and removal, and it definitely helps protect your carpeting. I used to have a 1974 911, and this worked wonders!!!!

Thanks, Andras.
Great suggestion. I'll be on the lookout for one. I plan to replace the carpeting, so I wanted to make sure this wouldn't happen again. Cheers, Jason

Jason, Actually, they are quite cheap at the local dealer or from any of the mail order houses. You might try PelicanParts, though I got mine from the dealer. And I use it to this day with my 911SC.
Cheers...........Andras

Had the same problem in my '74. My solution was to replace the battery with an Optima that is sealed (will not leak/corrode)....and much more powerful! Great upgrade and I needed a battery anyways! Then spent another $3 for plastic terminal covers/insulators. Solved the problem ![]()
