78SC clutch replacement - large clutch lever
I am trying to remove the large clutch lever arm from the clutch release cross-shaft and according to the instructions in the Bentley manual it should just slid off. Now it is probably rusted on, the splined clutch lever arm was, but before I go to additional efforts it looks like the lever is pinned to the shaft. There is a raised boss on the large lever near the shaft with a through hole that looks like it has a pin driven in. Has any one come accross this? In my searches I have not see any reference to this lever being pinned to the shaft.

The lever has a roll pin that holds it onto the shaft.
This should give you a hint or two. You will need a 4mm drift to remove it AFJuvat

If you have the Bentley SC manual, Instructions are on page 301-10 with illustration of driving dowel pin out of clutch fork.

Also, if you are having trouble with rust, spray some WD-40 on it and let it get down into under fork ..... let is soak in for several minutes ... should loosen it up and make it easier to slide off.

Thanks for the imput, however the part I am having problem with is item 13 in the picture above, the large lever. You can see in the picture a boss, and hole, that I described earlier, is there a pin in that area?

It just slides of the splines, once you remove the circle clip. Try some penetrating oil and a gear puller to get it off. Maybe a torch to heat it.

No! Do not heat or force it!
There is a pin in item 13. Note the round hole at the barrel end of item 13, just below and to the left of the number 4. Drive that pin out, NOT pin number 3. If you'd have a Haynes manual it states very clearly that this pin exists in cars up to about '78. Go figure! Bentley is oblivious of this (at least my first edition, compleat with errors and Carrera droppings...). John

Thanks for the help, I will try driving the pin out after hitting it a couple of times with some penetrating oil.

I had the same problem when I did mine. No mention of the pin in the Bentley. Mine has the pin and is a 79.
