What's this and can I cut it off?

I've just bought the heat exchangers for my SC. Can someone confirm that the (extra) little exchanger circled is for the mechanical injection as I want to cut it off and do these heat exchangers have near as damn it equal length headers or not?

OO those are from a 2.4L MFI engine. It's a preheater shroud that goes into a thermostat. It helps the car warm up faster. I seriously doubt you need it.

As far as I know they are from a 2.4 but I can't find the serial to check. I managed to light up the insides enough to discover that the headers are equal length and I've just been told I can hacl off the MFI part too so that's cool, thanks fior the help folks.

It's the intake-air pre-heater that supplies heated air to the thermostatically controlled flapper valve. It keeps emissions low by supplying the MFI with a more consistent intake air temp. MFI has no way of compensating for intake ait temp changes, so they instead opted to control the intake air temp.

The flap switches to full cold air beyond a certain throttle position so as not to degrade power when it's needed.
