What mirror(s) for early 911?

I removed some incorrect mirrors from the '71. I need to buy some replacements. I see Durant, Talbot and some reproduction flag mirrors in SS and black.

Here's where the problem starts. The Durants have a much bigger stud spacing than would be easy to reach thru the access holes which are about 1 5/8" on center. The holes in the doors are 1 5/8 also in my existing doors and in the doors I have off a '70 parts car. This leads me to belive that's original. The flag mirrors started in '72? I'm confused. What do you purisits and semi-purists have on your car?

Oh, one more thing. I believe that if I used the Talbots, the passenger mirror, (which was probably not original, allthough there are access holes) would be difficult to see out of it anyway due to the A pillar. So, I'm eliminating Talbots from my chioces.

I have the small flag mirrors on my 72. I wish I would have had the holes filled when I painted the car. That way I could of installed the mirrors that see mounted to the non-moving wing window. Those look the best in my mind-very clean.

The correct mirrors will be the Round Durant style for 70-71. That being said, My original 71 targa has the SS flag mirror of 72. It was one of the last 100 71's made in Sept. 71 so I think there was some overlap with some early 72's on the line.

I personally think the Flag mirrors are easier to see out of.

Yes the round Durant style is correct for that car. There was an optional passenger side mirror also, but it is a lot smaller that the drivers mirror. It looks kinda strange. If you are not an originality nut, I suggest you use the mirrors you like.

FYI I will trade my original flag mirror for 935 style mirrors.
