Where can I get a Targa rear window, and $$'s?

My son and his friends were playing in the back yard where I have my '71 targa stored. Well they were throwing rocks at each other and broke my back window.
Where can I find a replacement and what should I expect to spend? Or I should say, what should I expect them to spend...

targa glass is plentiful (read cheap) out here in california, where a lot of cars have been made into cabs. the problem is how were these windows stored- glass scratches easily, and how much will it cost to ship to you. i imagine you'll spend about $300-500 by the time one gets to you

Any chance I can just go to an auto-glass place and get new?

New?!!? I have a feeling that you would have to sell your son to get a brand new targa rear window :)

Sell my son?!?!?

You know, that might not be a bad idea... :)

Your average autoglass store MAY be able to sell you a new window, but search for someone qualified to put it in. Som go in easy, some go in hard-ask me how I know??

Hi Phred68,

I have one and you can have it cheap. Not sure what the freight would be. email me off line.

I also have one taking up space. From an '87.

Rennline 11-20-2003 09:55 AM

I have one you can have for free. I'm just in Vermont. It's in great shape all you have to do is pick it up. I just took it out of a 79 sc. Should be the same but not 100% sure. Paul Jacques Rennline.

Does anyone know what years will fit my '71?

Rennline (Paul), are you serious? Any other options?

jstgermaine 11-20-2003 12:09 PM

1970-1986 are all interchangeable without the third brake light.

After 1986 they went with the third brake light option...

Rennline 11-21-2003 05:16 AM

I'm very serious. At first I thought I was being a big help because I thought you lived in Maine. But relized that Maine is ME not MN. Anyway the offer still stands. I will never do anything with it so if you have a way of getting it its all yours. Paul (Rennline)

Well Boys and Girls here’s the latest. I decided to talk to my insurance agent, and he informs me that they will be happy to replace my glass with new at no cost to me. So, what would you do???

I’ve found a local shop that will do the work. (The guy even cringed with I told him what it was so I know he’s done a Targa before) Now all I have to do is wait until they track down glass for me and have it installed.

Thanks to all who offered their glass for very reasonable prices (Even free). I hope to never have to go through this again.

PS. My Son still lives, although he tells me that I won’t be getting that new Tiger Woods game for Christmas. He said that all of his Christmas money will go to get the window fixed. (It wont, but he doesn’t need to know that :) )
