W.hat S.hould J.ason D.o?
The next step for the 1974 is planning an engine upgrade... I've narrowed my choices (these seem like they'd be the best for various reasons) to the following: 2.7 RS spec motor with Webers. - Advantages - cheap(er), fast, torquey, simple - Disadvantages - worries me in terms of reliability (I don't have any hard evidence to back this up, but EFI engines seem to be more reliable), at the limit of possible performance for the engine platform 3.2 with some sort of EFI - Advantages - tunable, more modern design, has room to grow in terms of HP output - Disadvantages - more expensive to build and maintain, needs more care for install I'm interested to see if there are additional issues you'd point out related to this choice, and input on which path you'd take. I will be driving this car in the LA/OC area as my daily driver, and need it to be reliable, fast, and fun. Jason

Having just replaced a 2.7 (albeit stock) with a slightly modified 3.2, I can add that one thing to consider is that even a totally stock 3.2 is going to have as much or more torque and horsepower than the 2.7RS spec engine and will provide this power with excellent starting and driveability, fuel economy and reliability.
Having said that, I have a soft spot in my heart for a nice 2.7.... Also, I don't know that the 2.7 will really be cheaper in the long run. I might be misunderstanding your application, though. Mike

I vote for a 964 3.6.

Jason,
If I was to do my engine again, I wouldn't. I'd go for more displacement like a hot rodded 3.2 or as Steve suggests, a 3.6. But maybe I have become accustomed to the power of my 2.7 and wish for more. That's pretty likely. Although, the 3.2 case is pretty bullet proof and won't need the mods I had to do to mine for it to be solid, which is an advantage. Either would be fun, I'm partial to torque. Troy
