In its day, the RUF yellowbird was capable of 210mph plus. Now, in the latest EVO magazine a car called the Koenigsegg CC8S is listed as having a claimed top sped of 242mph.

In 75' it was a car registered in Alabama, owned by Gregorio Rossi di Montelara. Chassis #917.030. Originally part of the Martini Racing team and was number 28 in the Zeltweg 1000km race, first car in history to have anti-loc brakes, it was built in 1971. 630hp 5-litre air cooled flat-12 cylinder. And yes you guessed it --- It's a porsche 917k, fasted car ever registered for the road (at least in 1975).

the dauer wasn't just quoted, i think it was timed at 252 in Nardo... but I might be wrong, my memory is going.
the dauer is just silly, 1 million € of 700hp+ wrapped in carbon fibre. The maclaren actually ends up looking like the sensible option next to this. |

Ok, just checked my EVO (btw, this is the sept. 03 EVO, where they also drive an original 2.8 RSR...) and the oficial timed numbers for the Dauer are:
Top speed : 404.6 km/h (251.4 mph) 0-100km/h (62 mph) : 2.8 sec 0-200 km/h (124 mph) : 7.3 sec. This was tested at the Ehra-Lessien VW test track. I think this kinda puts everything else to the side. Those acceleration numbers are scary, for a 2wd car on "street" (i use the term loosely here) tires, since they almost match Veilside's turbo-nutter-bastard 1600bhp+ skyline gtr 4wd on it's record-breaking 13 sec run to 300 km/h... EDIT: O/T the video of the (previous 13.7 sec) run is cool to see, the gtr looks like it's on a rubber band, download this if you're curious... Last edited by Bothari; 11-14-2003 at 04:37 AM.. |

As I stated, guys: I've been known to be wrong! And I'll agree with the 1987 to 1989 range, provided they be Euro 231 hp Carrera's!

I believe the Dauer 962 Lemans is the fastest..in production 1994 and apparantly around 10 built, top end 250mph+, o-60 in 2.6secs!. The car was street legal, and was priced at $853,473. Another contender is the Bugatti EB18/6 Veyron..pushed over 250mph.
I have been privildged to take a drive in the Mclaren F1 back in the UK. Mclaren released a press release in 1998 stating the F1 had achieved a new official top speed of 240mph, previous "record" held by Jaguar XJ220..but didn't make much sense given the Dauer had been around for over four years. |
