black puffs at 5500 rpms
All right guys I need to dip into the wealth of knowledge here. It was a SUPER NICE day here in Dayton today so I drove the SC.... and just as chance would have it I see this Silver Well done up 2002 Jetta 1.8T with a carbon hood and hunkered down rolling up on me at a hi rate of speed so I was ready to pounce him as he came by.. I dropped a gear and waited for him to get closer.. and as he did I dropped my foot into it. and we were off.!!
I was in 3rd as we started out and i ran the gear all the way out to bit into 6 grand abd as i hit 5500ish rpm I noticed black smoke puff out the back ( no stumble or cut out ) noticed.. but i shifted and carried on .. well he and I ran it out pretty well into the triple digi's.. I was just under 5700 in 5th so you do the math ![]() 1. was it simply my out of tune Valves and or CIS? 2. was this blow by i am having with my rings at high RPM? 3. simply a litle load up caused from I have not a clue? The car after I arrived at work ran great, idled great.. no smoke .. steady as a rock!.. I turned her of and waited a bit and started her back up and she started fine right into a smooth runble. so I am drawing a HUGE ? as to what that black smoke was.... Thanks guys! for any input as to things it may or could have been. Eric ![]()

black smoke = rich condition. Was it between shifts that it did it, because mine gives a very small puff when i shift at high RPM as the CIS backs up and dumps fuel into the cylinders with the throttle slammed shut. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it too much unless the smoke is really pouring out.

Amir,
Yeah.. I have seen that before as I am following guys.. but this all took place under full load. WOT in other words.. I was all over it.. when I noticed the puff..I had not shifted yet. any ideas on it given this info ? would an out of adjustment CIS cause this momentary load up of fuel? e/

Yeah, I suffer from momentary lapse of better judgment from time to time.. but he and I had a good run of it.... thats for sure... I don't think it was quite 140's.. not sure an SC will go that fast.... but it was pretty damn fast.
WHat do ya think Steve do I have somthing terminal with the car? or just a burp? Eric
