Targa top parts?

Does anyone know what the difference between these 2 parts are? Besides $33.00?

Targa Top Handle, "Updated Version" 911 (1967-85) [Photo]
C-565-075-41 $35.25

Targa Frame Handle, 911 (1974-89) [Photo] M-565-145-00 $2.25

And I'm looking for the front clips that hold the top down to the frame. I remember reading that there are a new longer version. I'm having a problem where one of my clips pop out if I hit a bump in a turn just right. Is this the one?

Thanks

There are two different versions of the targa top handle. They changed somewhere in the '80's and are not interchangeable. You should use the 075-41 part. I'm not sure what the 145-00 part is, I suppose it might work.

You can use the longer clips, but the problem is that the top is worn out. If you rebuild the top, or have it rebuilt you won't need the longer clips. The longer clips are just a bandaid, they won't fix the problem.

Hi Mike.....I lost my Targa top handle in the leaves when I was leaving a winery last week Anyway, I knew they were about $35 to replace. I found a guy that sent me one for $25, including shiping and handling. I understand he has tons of used Porsche parts and is an expert on Targa tops. His name is Dan and his company is Targa Top Restoration out of New Jersey. Reach him at carsinc@comcast.net He was very helpful and calls himself " the Porsche answer man" Gary

thanks guys. I have emailed Dan in the past month or so. I probably need to buckle down and get a restored top instead of messing with this one anymore. It has had a bunch of work done to it recently but the new skin is loose and the drivers side locking latch is broken ( I did a quick fix with a hose clamp) And the clip pops....so....

Do a search for targa top clips. I bought some of the longer clips about a year ago and they solved the problem for good. I posted a thread or an answer related to these clips at about the same time. Don't recall off the top of my head who I sourced them from.

Wind noise at any speed over 60. New clips made problem go away.

I second the suggestion to call Dan @ Cars-Inc. I've dealt with him on several occasions and he has always done me right. He has quite a stockpile of used 911 parts, and not just Targa stuff.

Just a note on the long clips. I had my top restored by Dan, before I sent it off the front clips would pop off at each bump, but after he restored the top with the original short clips the wind-noise is gone and the clips are no where near popping off. I believe from looking at things that it is because with all of the new material the top is tight enough to cause the front and rear portion of the frame to bow out a tad. With the old material it would not bow out. Thats probably why you could wedge a stick in between the front and rear frame and keep the top from popping before the restoration.

Again, the longer clips don't really fix the problem (loose top) they just bandaid it. Many people have done the top themselves (not me) with great success, or you can use Dan Petchel or there's also another guy in Colorado someplace, I think he advertises in Excellence.
