Flare install question ?

I'm getting ready to install sc flares on my car and my concern is with the oil tank . Should the oil tank be removed prior to welding the flares on or will covering it with a heat blanket work ok ? Thanks

Hey, are you going with steel or glass? I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my car. Mind if I ask what you've figured this will cost?

Thanks

David

I guess he is going with steel since he said welding. :)

You really dont want to get much heat on the fender at any one time or you'll have an ocean of waves to work out of the metal. In that vain, as long as you are comfortable with covering the oil tank, I'd say yes.

I'm going with steel , as far as cost I have about $400.00 in parts at this point . I'm calling on several friends to help with the install so this will save alot of money . I never really got an estimate but I heard prices of $400.- $500. per side to install. Thanks

We did cover the oil tank with many sheets of aluminum foil and a welding blanket. I don't think any harm would have happened but we did not want to risk it. Our main concern was cutting the old flares off with the plasma cutter...welding would be less of a concern.

There are a couple pics on our web site that show the process.

John, is the green car yours? Either way, it is spectacular!

The green one is my new toy and the black one belongs to my son. Thanks for the compliments. It has been a really fun project. Next on the "to-do" list is an RSR conversion on the black car...However, Chris is still hunting for those flares.
