WEVO shift couplers..whats the difference?
Wevo has 3 different shift couplers for sale, ranging from $125 for $275. I'm confused though as to what the real differences are.
I'm interested in the $125 model and the $195 model. One is supposedly a direct bolt-in replacement ($195) and the other is a universal joint setup ($125). The descriptions are at: http://www.wevo.com/wevopsjpage.htm I read the text but I still don't 'get it'. What's the difference and are there any advantages with one over the other?

Pretty simple. Stock, Racing or Custom versions.
The price of installation goes up as the price of the coupler goes down. If you have to ask the question you need a stock version. |

The cheaper the coupler, the more labor, welding and technical skill wil be needed to install it. It is $200 part for 99.9% of the Porsche owners out there. It is a $275 part for guys who can adjust it and want an even more reliable installation under hard racing conditions. It is a $125.00 part if you have a 915 tranny and the 914 to mate to it and want a "The modular PSJ is a product intended for those custom installations where a universal joint might be required in the middle of a shift linkage." My suggestion is learn how to rebuild your OEM part first. Buy Wayne's book for $30 and pay Pelican $25 for the bushing kit. The hour or so it takes to change them out will enlighten your decision making on coupler designs and models greatly. Last edited by rdane; 11-24-2003 at 10:02 PM.. |

Of course when I looked up, there it was. Mea culpa. As for rebuilding my OEM part, good point. I'll probably crack the cover plate open sometime before Sunday and change out bushings and get a better general idea of what is going on.
