parking brake/oil-pressure lights?
Car is an '83 SC, and I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem of my oil-pressure warning light NOT coming on when the ignition is turned on and the engine is not yet running.
Looking at the wiring diagram, I see there's a connection between the seatbelt/parking brake warning lights in the center of the dash, and the oil-pressure warning light in the combination gauge. I vaguely remember hearing something about how you can always tell that your oil-pressure light is working because of something you do with the parking brake, like pull it on or release it (obviously)? Can somebody clear this up for me? What's the drill and why is there that electrical connection? Stephan

Look at this schematic, there is a wire that is green\white that is common to these systems, that may be your problem?!?!?!!?

Well, that's exactlyl what I said--that there is a wire common to both units. What I'm asking is what was the procedure that I vaguely remember hearing about, that has something to do with the handbrake, that verifies that the oil-pressure warning light is shot.
And no, the bulb isn't shot. Doh. Stephan

You need Warren. It's some kind of logic circuit ( if my memory serves me right ). Do a search, he explained it once.
Did you ground the wire that goes to the sender ? Should bring it on.

Stephan,
I had the problem of both light coming on after driving for a while. It was the oil pressure warning switch. I'm not sure about the test you are talking about, but the brake should be on when you put the the key to 1st position so you can see the light come on. Check the wire on the sensor is on, it's in the very front of the engine (firewall) and a beggar to get at. I'm assuming your oil pressure gauge is showing correct?

Yes, oil pressure reads just fine, and the funny thing is, a couple of days ago, the oil-pressure light worked just fine.

Mine started with the brake light coming on when driving, then the oil pressure warning light starting to flicker on. Then it came on steady. It was the oild pressure warning switch which was leaking oil, and all gunked up.
Killed two birds with one stone, fixed oil leak and replaced faulty sensor.... I would think you should be able to jumper the circuit by the brake warning light to see if it's working...
