List of recommended interior shops
As kind of a parallel to the "List of Recommended Rebuild Shops" and "List of Recommended Body Shops" in the Engine Rebuild forum, I thought it might be cool to start a thread for shops that are capable for some of the interior problems that can arise on Porsches... You know, the expert that will replace your headliner perfectly, without damaging your trim or gluing it in crooked. While some mechanics work on this stuff, others are more focused on the mechanicals, and I think they are different specialties.
Any recommendations? Jason

Great idea Jason! I'm thinking about having the 73E's sport seats reupholstered but don't know where to have it done. Also, I'm hoping that this can be done on the right coast.

It has been a while since I used them personally, but Autos International in Escondido (San Diego Calif area) does fabulous work and is very well-respected in the p-car circles. Many of the interior fabrication and resto projects you read about in Excellence and Pano were done by these guys...

I've heard Autos Int. is good, but slow (as in glacier). How was your experience?

Undergoing the same search here. Both places in San Diego came highly recommended. I am also looking for a restoration shop or primo paint shop that doesn't mind detail work.
I need to have the front trunk area (it's a 914) refinished in a couple of spots, including the repair of some minor rust. Not the kind of thing the painter wants to deal with and the detail required is too much for a "get 'em done" kind of shop. Pete

Notice a trend here, guys? Anyone good on the East Coast, or is the West Coast it for interior work?

For those of us stuck in the center (kansas) try
Downey Upholstery in Wichita. He did new bolsters in my 87 cab and you can't tell they weren't original. I watched him sew them up and he set his machine to use the old holes in the leather. Keith |

Pete: Contact KevinP73 here on the board. He has a great restoration shop in Van Nuys. He's a "P-car guy," and I'm sure he'll be able to help. He's a really nice guy, too!
