Living in California.....PRICELESS
I recently drove from Southern California to Monterey, up Highway 1. What a drive! The basically bone-stock car performed magnificently, and the sights were awesome.
670 miles door to door (round trip) 23 miles per gallon 1/2 quart of oil Here's a sample of the trip. It started off with a spirited game of follow the leader with an SC north of Santa Barbara. ![]() Next, it was on to Highway 1 at San Luis Obispo. ![]() Shadow of my car just north of San Luis Obispo. ![]() And the fun begins. ![]() Setting sun along Highway 1 ![]() And for the trip back, this picture says it all! ![]()

Everyone needs to drive PCH1 in 911 at least once before they die.

I agree, Scott
The Pacific Coast this time of year is extra beautiful, And the route you took is tops in a Porsche. The last time I was up there we stopped were the Sealions hang out just north of the Hearst Castle and found a little cove were there must have been about a hundred of them laying on the beach. Couldn't agree more. Great ride for the Porsche and the spirit.
We should start a list of pelican cars under that sign: ![]()

Your picture is of Gavotia Pass on 101....North...Back in the day I used to make the drive from Goleta to Lompoc 3 times a week. At the time I owned a 912.
Back in the day, I picked up a 914 driven by a Lieut. in the AF just about where that picture was taken. About 2 miles up 101 is the turn off to Lompoc (Route 1). For the 1st 10 miles it is relativily a stratight road. The 914 and I raced for a bit down that road. He was about 6 feet behind me at about 105 mph. Another time it was pouring rain as I left Goleta after dark, you could barely see 20 feet in front of you. I tail gated a Ford station wagons at 75 mph all the way up to the Route 1 turnoff to Lompoc. When I hit the Brakes they didn't work...the Porsche started to slide...I said, "ohhh *****" and then I remembered the off ramp goes back down onto 101, and breathed a sigh of relief. My Porsche stopped in the middle of the intersection. From there down into Lompoc I limped home. I had no fear of cruising down Route 1 to 101 at 100 mph, but once you hit 101 in the Gavotia pass you'd better slow down cause that is a turn around point for the CHP. Hollister Blvd in Goleta if I recall correctly is another one. But that is a beautiful drive especially at sunset.
