removing door window from channel

need some advice on how to remove the door windows from channel that lifts them up and down. how are they secured. mine look like they are held in with years of gunk accumulation. i would real like to avoid breakage. this is on a 67 911 coupe. i have the lifting mechanism loose from the door panel, the window frame and vent window removed. is there a chemical stripper that would work? when i do get this out and start putting things back, what is the rubber part called that the window seats in?

The window channel seat, rubber, and glass gets kinda sealed together.
I sliced the metal to eliminate breaking the glass......Ron

I had a 67 912 and had to replace the driver side regulator. The teeth on the gear were worn away. I found that 67 is an "oddball" year and only 67 regulators work. Be careful not to damage yours.

I made the mistake of removing them thinking they were part of the regulator. I used a putty knife and a lot of patience.

Why are you removing the channel from the glass?

When I put it back together, I put some 3M adhesive and carefully compressed it with channel locks. I then used a wood clamp with 2 pieces of plywood to sandwich the sides of the metal making sure the adhesive had time to cure.

Good luck, David

I'm not sure what you are trying to do.

The window is cemented to it's channel so it won't pop out when you roll down the window.

If you are just trying to remove the window then leave it in it's channel. The channel has two large holes at the ends of each of the 2 lubricated slots that ride on the raising mechanism. You just lower the window all the way down inside the door and slide it off the mechanism.

P.S. I believe you have to remove the frame first however.

Here's a picture of the channel showing the two large holes at the ends of the slots for removal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1070420075.jpg
