That's the system I'm in the process of installing but mine doesn't come with an A.P.C. valve as detailed in the article, only an exhaust wastegate as indicated in the picture. |

Looks like a neat kit. I'm not clear on that APC thing. If it is venting intake air, hasn't that air already been used to meter fuel, causing super-rich running on max. boost?

So far all I've done is mount the hardware to determine fits and any interferences.
I still have to run the oil lines and rig up a better muffler support strap, right now it has the entire muffler hanging on the turbo housing and that it a no no. I'm going to start off with low boost numbers, prolly around 5 psi and then eventually move up from there with a supplimental fuel injector and intercooler. I agree on the APC valve making it run rich, seems like a better idea would be to set the waste gate to control boost and use an APC (blow off valve) to only relieve when the throttle body is closed during boost conditions i.e. set the waste gate at 5 psi and the blow off valve at 7 psi or something like that. Here's a picture of another turbo install I did about 4 years ago, only that one was on a 2 liter 914.

The turbo itself prolly weighs around 30 pounds.
I may eventually upgrade the turbo but I need see how it performs as is. It may work just fine. I don't need high boost levels so if anything I would be looking ofr a turbo that has high efficiency ratings at a given flow/pressure, reasonable surge levels, and one that develops boost as low in the rpm range as possible without giving up any top end. That is like having my cake and eating it too, everything is a compromise. I plan to locate a compressor map for it and compare it to whatever is out there. I play with centrifugal compressor curves at work from time to time so it's not that far of a stretch to compare characteristics of different turbos. If there is a drammatically better option I may cough up the $$$ for it, but if it is only slightly better there's no sense in it. |

Haven't seen or tested his, heck I haven't even got this thing running yet, so it'll be a while before I can make any comparisons.
I plan to be very conservative with the boost and am only looking for a noticeable performance improvement, not a huge horsepower monster (yeah right)

Here's what's included in RFNGs kit:

All necessary clamps; nuts and bolts for installation 16. complete exhaust system-exits the passenger side-must cut sheet metal on the rear valance yourself 17. template for rear sheet metal & blank plate 18. All necessary brackets to mounting turbocharger to engine mount 19. All necessary gaskets 20. Modified front cover-driver's side exchange 21. Spark plugs? 22. Reducer and expander for inlet and out of turbo to pipework I'm sure I've left out small misc items, I would sugguest that if you have not backdated your heating system, do it now. The kit will not fit with the stock SC heating plates. I would also suggest that if you don't have an aux oil cooler, you will need to install one. I believe a mention of Fuel Enrichment issues are brought up. The APC should be removed or blocked for the reasons mentioned. A wastegate is more effective especially with a manual boost controller - mine is Tialco 35mm with the BC from slowboyracing.com.
If desired for overboost on throttle closing one solution would be to plumb a vacuum operated (connected to the lower TB) Bailey Diverter Valve beween those two large pipes (Turbo Outlet to Turbo Inlet). In this way metered air would be recirculated. Course that may blow back your sensor plate a bit.

This is what I have found on the rajay turbo... not much... but its a start. I have the same BAE system that I am putting together. I still haven't found any maps yet for it. If its the .60 i believe the the boost will kick in at about 3500 rpm. In regard to exhaust housings, there were three small size housings offered for the "B" and possibly the "F" trims, they were .40 A/R, .25A/R and I have seen .20 A/R. All larger housings were 4 bolt pattern and ranged up to 1.40 and above. You turbo is a B-B trim with a .40A/R exhaust housing. You can find the A/R number just inside the exhaust housing by the exhaust inlet mounting flange. One thought, if the tag on the compressor housing says it is a 301B40, that is assuming no one has changed the exhaust housing. The upgrade to this setup is to move to a "F" trim compressor wheel. I have run the F-B .40 setup on a 1915cc engine and it easily makes 15 psi instantly... Tim in Sac |

I have the same kit on my 2.7 it works pretty well. There is a guy named Geary at Turbocity that helped me out with the Rajay turbo questions.
