Question Cab top puncture wounds - help!

My 89' Carrera Cab has a series of 3 puncture holes on both the passenger and driver's side, just above the top of the side window (see first picture).

Looks like it was caused by the stud in photo 2, which i believe is there to secure the top in it's down position.

If I'm not paying attention every time I lower the top to make sure the canvas folds correctly, a fold in the canvas is pinched on the stud and pokes through again when the top is lowered all the way. (sorry, no picture of that)

My question is, why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

Yup, that's a common problem.

Not much you can do you about the holes, but you have to be super careful about folding the top to prevent them in the future.

Crappy design, IMHO

Thom's right. I have them too, the elstic gets worn and does not pull the top tight anymore. Just becareful in the future. Call an Auto Apoulstry place, they shoudl know someone that can make them look a little better, you will still be able to see them, but they won't be nearly as bad.

The Elastic! That's what that little flimsy piece of black stuff on the underside of the top (see pic 2) is there for! It's still the original top, so that makes perfect sense.

I'm going to try and splice a new section of beefy elastic on there and see if that makes it behave correctly.

Thanks guys!

Yup agree, those elastics - seen in the very top of your second picture must be fresh and well 'elastic' rather than loose.
