993 performance chip

A guy at work has a 1997 Carrera 4S and he wants a little HP boost and was wondering about performance chips.
I'm not a 993 guy, so this question may seem a little stooopid:
Is there a performance chip for the 993? If so, what is it / how to get it?

(Can you believe it? This guy had not heard of the infamous Pelican Parts BBS, but asked me if I would post this message. I can probably convert him to be a true believer.)

Thanks. - Bill

I'm not sure if Steve W. has a 993 chip out yet but if he has, I'd recommend your friend contact him at http://www.911chips.com/c1chips.html

I was very happy with his 3.2 chip and he understands the term "customer sevice". I appreciated that.

Bill, the '97 993's are OBD II systems and much more involved to chip. They are available, however, but usually pricey.
Here's one company that makes a chip, there are others. Don't know anyone using one now, hopefully someone will
chime in...

I'd tell him to contact Stever Weiner at Rennsport Systems in California.
http://www.rennsportsystems.com
He seems to make the most highly regarded chips within the 993 community.

I'm not positive, but if it's similar to other obd2 cars, than you can't simply chip the car. The entire computer must be sent out to be reprogrammed. Just swapping a chip in some of the obd2 cars will read fault and the vehicle won't start. But i'm not too sure about the 993, i do know the 968 has an issue like that.

Chipping the OBD-II (96-0n) Porsches involves removing the EPROM (chip) inside the ECU and reprogramming it.

We do these all the time and it works quite well. No Check Engine lights if its done properly

Hey Princeton,.,.......LOL,...We are still up here in Oregon. Please visit us anytime you are in the area.

Hi Steve,
Didn't know you were on pelican too. LOL for some reason I always think Kali when I think of Porsche tuners.

In any case, a few of my good NSX buddies and I are trying to plan a road trip out to around that area sometime in the June-July timeframe. I'll definitely give you guys a call and drop by if and when it all comes together. It'd be my pleasure to meet the great Steve Weiner.
