Convertible Top Cable?

For you guys that have torn your tops apart or replaced them, is ther e just one cable that runs from either side all the way to the front of the top? Or is the cable that opens the top from the motors on each side in the back go only part way and there there is another short cable?

The reason I ask is that my top opens an closes fine, but right over the drivers door the material is loose, does not fit snug and makes a TON of noise on the highway (which is annoying as I drive 50 miles each way at 75+ mph). I can see where a cable is broken and does not go all the way to the screw near the front. I want to replace the cable to tighten the top, but don't want to spend the $400 plus at PP to buy the new cables they are selling, if I don't need to ( I will if I have to, as I buy everythign from here if they have what I need).

Thanks, Bill

I have an '83 with a manual top and there are 2 single cables on either side. I hope that helps!

I have the same problem - somehow mine are loose. Just haven't got around to fixing it yet...

The cables stretch out over time. I am i the process of replacing the top on my 83' cab [myself] i look forward to the challenge. Who ever put the last top on did a half ass job. I ordered new cables from the dealer,as i remember they were about $35.00 each. I compaired the length of the old ones and the new and there was a good 1/2 stretch in the old ones, hence loose top above doors.

Platiporsch,

You would not still happen to have the part numbers by any chance?
