Carrera Cup (Racing Series)

Last night the season review of the Carrera Cup racing series here in Germany was on TV...freaking awesome!

The hard part was watching them smash up the GT3 Cup cars! The money......wow!

I had no idea this racing series was going on, so this 2004 season I plan on attending them when possible.

American driver Patrick Long finished the season strong and managed 5th overall (I think ) while Stippler dominated from race 1 pretty much.

Seeing as how the NASTYCAR boyz are resting now, SPEED has been showing a few more decent programs. Maybe we'll get to see some Carrera Cup action, before the roundy-round stuff comes back on.

If you could record some of those races and mail me a tape, I would make it worth your while. They used to show them every once and awhile here in the states, but I think Nascar proved more popular

I was looking for a year in review tape like they have for the BTCC series but haven't been able to find one. Those cup races are some great races to watch.

I've noticed more Road Racing on Speed as well. It's awesome to get the fix whilst in the "long winters nap" here in the Midwest.

I'm hoping that the increase will start turning a few more roundy-rounders into road racing fans!

I would also chip in to get a copy of some Carrera Cup races, especially the year end recap.

Chris, I think you're being too optimistic. I was reading this demographic profile of fans and drivers from the Grand American Road Racing web site, "GA Road Racing attracts a special kind of race fan, one that is educated, active and independent".

Turning right adds a layer of complexity that many race fans just don't understand

I thought there might be a glimmer of hope, when Dale Earnhardt co-drove a Corvette at the Daytona 24 a few years ago.
Then the poor bastard had to go and die!

Earnhardt's Daytona road race co drivers were very complimentary on his driving skills. They were amazed on how D.E> would enter the oval at significantly lower speeds each lap, yet have higher top speeds by turn one, compared to the guys that could turn left and right

Another exciting racing series to catch when it's on is the Japanese Touring Car championships. Usually Toyotas and Nissans vying for overall win, but there are a couple of teams running GT3s (I think) and they seem to be doing well. The commentator is sort of a "Murray Walker on amphetamines" kinda guy, so that adds to the fun.

Eric, John and Mike...I will catch the Nations cup race this week, and if they show it next week the Carrera Cup! They are both great to watch, even the Lambo guys do pretty well in the Nations Cup.

I asked the pres of SPEED, who said "We'd be happy to run the Carrera Cup if we could find someone to underwrite it. It's very difficult to find sponsors for."

So, that would seem to be a "No."

And THAT conversation occured before the Fox/Nascar era began.

That's an incredible statement coming, as it does, from the 'NASCAR-owned' Grand Am Series! I guess we're only left to assume that their oval track fans are non-special, uneducated, inactive, and dependant .......

ha ha....I like NASCAR as well as the cup races while the F-1 engines are music to the ears! But I don't think anything requires a "special" person to watch, if that were the case the NBA would be a special olympic event!
