targa script

i plan on repainting my targa bar this winter. after reading the threads, i haven't seen any mention of the targa script. my bar is black with silver script. how is this removed? if i need to replace it, the only examples i seem to come by are are gold or black. help please. thanks larry:confused:

Funny you should ask! When I repainted my car, I replaced everything that was worn. New hood emblem, targa script, light lenses. Everything. Someone posted here about the targa script being glued on and removing it with dental floss. Well, I tried that for 2 minutes till I figured out my targa script has 2 posts with speednuts on the back. So I removed the targa bar before the script.

I bought a black targa script then sanded the top with a rough block sander till I got a nice brushed aluminum look. The raised backround of the script is still black, so the contrast is nice. I then clearcoated the whole thing before install.

PS Check your name. Do you really want to be larry 88 TRAGA?

Larry--

I repainted my bar with Wurth black satin right after I put JMPRO"s hardtop on. My scritpts were the kind with two posts. I used the replacements to locate the posts on the old ones and drilled them out. By the way, I painted the new scripts guards red to match the car (originals were black and hardto see against the black bar) and have gotten lots of compliments on the look, although it's not original. Don't know what color your car is, but you might want to give that style some thought. I got black replacements and lightly sanded them before painting with Testors guards red. The paint seems to be holding up fine after several months.

Dan,
How did you paint the bar? Or did you have it done? Do you have a closeup photo? I'm interested in seeing the red Targa scripts...

Steve--

I'm at the office but will try to gete a picture when I get home. It will be an indoor pic because of the snow. I did not remove the bar to paint it. I masked it off with tape and a drop cloth, I think 3 coats.

Your script is almost definitely NOT glued. The idea of using the new script as a template to mark the studs on the old one before drilling them out sounds great. That way you don't have to pull the Targa bar.

The idea of a white Targa script sounds nice. Leave the sides black if you can, the shadow effect looks great, plus dirt tends to settle in the corners of the script and are hard to see with black sides but might show up easily if the sides of the lettering are white.

Targa911man--

How many cans of the Wurth's did it take? Did you use the Satin Black Flex Trim Paint? I am wanting to paint mine soon and seeing yours has me thinking that's the way to go.

targa911man 12-08-2003 08:34 AM

I used Wurth Satin Black Trim Paint, Pelican part no. WRTH-8930190. I think it took 1 can.
