914 to RSR steering wheel- Part 3
It's been a while, but a few pesky "to do" hings have popped up, you know, like, going to work, night shifts.
I have finally added the second layer of leather to the wheel. It took some thinking before covering a perfect layer of nice leather, but the aim is a thick rimmed wheel like the factory did it, so on it goes: A few tricky spots: The final product looks real nice. No creases, no folds, regular stitching. I'm happy about the way it turned out: I will shoot the last layer of black on the spokes, and turn to the hub. I have had a spacer made out of aluminum: It is 20 mm thick. After drilling it, it will be bead blasted to create a rough surface, then painted semi gloss black like the wheel spokes. The next update will be when I manage to coerce a friend who has a machine shop to drill the different holes for the hub extension. Stay tuned. |
