New brake pad bed-in questions
I vaguely remember some discussion on this in some previous posts but could not find much with a search. I recently had new Mintex CTech pads installed with ss braided lines and was wondering:
1--What is "bedding-in" the pads and is it necessary? 2--How do you do it and what can I expect for brake performance? 3--Is it necessary for street cars? Will normal street driving achieve the same thing? The weather here in Omaha has been pretty crappy lately and I haven't been able to take her out much to test the feel of the brake upgrades. Thanks for the help.

I dont' know about Mintex, but bedding is a transfer of pad material to rotor surface. One bedding procedure calls for heavy pedal braking from 65 to 5 mph followed by some driving to cool the rotors, then same thing from 75 and 85. Don't park the car immediately until you've driven for enough time for the brakes to cool using them gentley until coming to rest.
I'll bet Bill Verburg has excellent advice for your particular pad. |
