Dropping the engine

In about two weeks a friend and I will be dropping the engine in my 87 Carrera. Besides changing plugs, wires, and valve adjustment, short of a rebuild, what else should be done? I know "the sky is the limit", but with access to everything I don't want to miss anything that I wouldn't be able to do otherwise. Also, I know there is an oil leak from the cam tower and I will fix that too. Thanks.

You didn't say why the drop but I would change the 2 crank sensors and the temp sensor if they are original. They are in the back, a PIA to change\adjust in the car. In addition, these parts can leave you stranded if they fail. Grab your wallet and say ouch when you price them though...Also, the oil pressure sending unit in the front is another tough one to remove in the car. How does your oil pressure gauge respond these days? The clutch components are another given of course.

I'm dropping the engine because of the oil leak(s), but mainly because I and my friend have the time.

Also, replace the oil pressure switch in the back of the motor.
Take a look at the clutch too.

What should I look for in the clutch? What might be the standard replacement parts since I'll have the access?
