Stuck in reverse
Have a 1970 911T with 901 sportomatic. It seems to be stuck in reverse. Other then taking it back to the shop, is there a tip to getting it out of reverse. Someone told me I can pop the inspection hatch and fix it. Also told it was due to ware and most likely will happen again.
Anyone know what would be worn that I would have to replace. Thinking of trying this myself. Already have over 6k in total engine rebuild and wife kinda looking at me funny when I say another 2-3 K to have shop fix/replace it. My second option is taking offers. |
ihad a sporto, seriously take it to a good knowlegeable porsche mechanic.
Mine needed all new seals and stuff and now it works fine. Have them do the aligning too and check your bearings |
pull off the shift guide piece on the side of the trans, and look inside with a flashlight. you will see three shafts, each with a slot. one of the slots will porobably be offset from the others (reverse/1st shaft). pop it back in line with a screwdriver. wear in the intermediate plate, a missing detent, mis-adjusted shafts, or a worn shift selector tip (the shift lever that lives in the slots) can all cause this, as well as "slop shifting" (just bad luck). be sure to position the selector finger in the slots, and between the arms in the guide, when the guide piece is reinstalled
