Replace the Bushings in your Shifter, its worth it!

I bought a shifter bushing rebuild kit from our sponsor:) about $25. Put it in today, and the improvement in shifting is remarkable. If you haven't done it, you should, its not too hard, I did it in a morning. A few points, 1) use Wayne's book its pretty good, 2) if your like me and you haven't been in that part of your car before make sure when removing the shifter, that you undo the 3 large and 2 small Allen (socket head) machine screws to take off the entire shifter. I undid the two hex nuts on the top shifter plate and the springs popped out! Not a big deal but you need a friend to help push it back together. 3) To press out the pin on the rear coupling, I used a deep well socket on one side and a "receiving" socket on the other with a large vise and squeezed the pin in and out, you probably don't need a press if you have a big enough vise, 4) when adjusting the linkage, I got better results using the method suggested in the technical article on this website about adjusting the shifter, than those directions given in 101 Projects. It helps to have a friend while doing the adjustment. Clean everything well and use plenty of lithium grease.SmileWavy
